Giraffe and dikdik response to observer in the Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem

Observations of giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) and dikdik (Madoqua kirkii) were recorded to analyze trends in how these species responded to observers.  Areas with different protection levels were compared.  Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park are the most protected. No human settlement allowed. Manyara Ranch allowed for Maasai pastoralism and the Community Area allowed for trophy hunting and pastroalism. Results found that dikdik showed a higher response rate, which could be due to poaching pressure faced by the dikdik.  Results also could suggest that larger National Parks could be more effective as animals are less responsive to observers in larger protected areas. The following poster was made to visually communicate the findings.
